The Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions meet Friday in week 3 NFL preseason action at the Ford Field. The Indianapolis Colts look for another win to finish the preseason with a 3-0 record. The Detroit Lions are still looking for their first preseason win after an 0-2 start.

The Indianapolis Colts are fresh off preseason wins over the Panthers and Vikings. In the victory, the Colts produced 288 total yards and allowed 227 total yards. Jacob Eason led Indianapolis with 132 passing yards while Sam Ehlinger had 70 passing yards and two interceptions. Jordan Wilkins led the Colts with 20 rushing yards on five carries while Dezmon Patmon and Zach Pascal combined for 91 receiving yards on eight catches. Defensively, Curtis Bolton led the Colts with five tackles, Kwity Paye had one sack and Matthew Adams had one pass deflection. The Colts have to be pleased with how they’ve played through two games, but the real success comes when Carson Wentz takes the field. Until we see Wentz in a Colts uniform, it’s hard to judge this team fairly.

The Detroit Lions are coming off losses to the Bills and Steelers. In the losing effort, the Lions produced 288 total yards and allowed 401 total yards. David Blough led Detroit with 143 passing yards and one touchdown while Tim Boyle had 43 passing yards. Craig Reynolds led the Lions with 29 rushing yards and one touchdown while Tom Kennedy and Geronimo Allison combined for 83 receiving yards on five catches. Defensively, AJ Parker led the Lions with eight tackles, Derrick Barnes had one sack and C.J. Moore had one pass deflection. The Lions have had issues finishing games and the offense has been hit or miss. It’s just preseason, but there’s a good chance these struggles will carryover to the regular season for the Lions.

The Colts are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games as a road favorite and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games. The Lions are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games on fieldturf. The over is 9-4 in Colts last 13 games overall. The over is 7-3 in Lions last 10 games overall. The road team is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 meetings. The over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.

This number is a bit steep for a road team in the last preseason game, but it’s nearly impossible to back the Lions based on what we’ve seen up to this point. The Lions could easily be the worst team in the league and they’ve done nothing so far to change anyones opinion. I can’t get behind the Lions with any confidence. It’s Colts or pass in this contest.
