The Jacksonville Jaguars host the Cleveland Browns for their meeting in week 12 NFL action from TIAA Bank Stadium in Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon.
The Cleveland Browns will look to add to their 7-3 record after picking up a 22-17 win over Philadelphia last time out. Baker Mayfield has thrown for 1,850 yards, 15 touchdowns and 7 interceptions on 60.8% passing while Kareem Hunt leads the Browns in rushing with 644 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns and Nick Chubb has 575 rushing yards and a team-high 5 touchdowns this season. Jarvis Landry leads Cleveland with 38 catches on 57 targets for 471 yards while Rashard Higgins and Austin Hooper each have 250+ receiving yards. Hunt has 151 receiving yards with 4 touchdowns while Harrison Bryant has 151 receiving yards with 3 scores and KhaDarel Hodge and David Njoku each have 100+ receiving yards as well this season. On defense, B.J. Goodson leads the Browns with 69 total tackles including a team-high 46 solo tackles and a pair of interceptions while Denzel Ward has a pair of INTs as well and Myles Garrett has a league-high 9.5 sacks but continues to miss time due to being on the NFL’s COVID reserve list. Olivier Vernon also has 5 sacks and Sheldon Richardson has 3.5 sacks this season.
The Jacksonville Jaguars could use a win to snap a brutal 9-game losing streak after falling to 1-9 after a 27-3 loss to Pittsburgh last time out. Gardner Minshew II leads Jacksonville with 1,855 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and 5 interceptions on 65.9% passing but he continues to sit out due to injury, leaving the QB duties to Jake Luton who has thrown for 624 yards, 2 touchdowns and 5 interceptions on 54.5% passing. THe Jags have become disenchanted with Luton and have decided to give career backup Mike Glennon as shot under center. James Robinson leads the Jaguars in rushing with 762 rushing yards with 5 touchdowns while DJ Chark Jr. has a team-high 41 catches on 66 targets for 534 yards with 4 touchdowns. Keelan Cole Sr. has 453 receiving yards with 4 scores as well while Chris Conley and Laviska Shenault Jr. each have 300+ receiving yards this season. On defense, Joe Schobert leads Jacksonville with 85 total tackles including a team-high 50 solo tackles while Josh Allen has a team-high 2.5 sacks.
Cleveland is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a losing record and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games as a road favorite. Jacksonville is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 9-4 in their last 13 games against the AFC. Cleveland is 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
The Browns will be without Myles Garrett for this game as well as he continues to deal with COVID issues, but against this pitiful Jags team, I’m not sure it matters. I thought Jacksonville would get up for the game against Pittsburgh last week and the Jaguars fell flat on their faces and a lot of it had to do with Jake Luton and the quarterback situation doesn’t appear to be sorting itself out any time soon. The Browns have looked really good since figuring out that the offense needs to run the ball predominantly to have success and I think we see another steady diet of running the football down the opponent’s throats from Cleveland as the Browns win this one on the road and cover with relative ease.
