The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots meet Sunday afternoon in a Madden20 NFL simulation game.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are actually a respectable team in this video game, as they have two players ranked in the 90s in wide receiver Mike Evans and linebacker Lavonte David. The Bucs also have five other players ranked 85 overall or better, including defensive linemen Ndamukong Suh and Vita Vea. Quarterback Jameis Winston carries a 78 overall rating with a 81 acceleration rating, but his awareness rating is just 75, so like in real life, he’s prone to mistakes and turnovers. Still, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have some difference makers on both sides of the field and are far more loaded on defense than most people would expect. The Buccaneers have become that sneaky good team in Madden that people can win with if they know what they’re doing.

The New England Patriots have three players ranked in the 90s in cornerback Stephon Gilmore, quarterback Tom Brady and safety Devin McCourty. This day is obviously all about Brady with the Patriots hosting four simulation games, and he brings a 95 awareness rating to the table with a 70 agility rating. However, when you thitem in linebacker Dont’a Hightower and his 88 overall rating, the Pats rely heavily on their defense in this game with three of their top-four ranked players being on that side of the ball. Offensively, wide receiver Julian Edelman has a solid 91 acceleration rating and 87 overall rating, while the offensive line has three players with an 84 overall rating or above. The New England Patriots are short on offensive weapons, but they have an effective defense and a quarterback who doesn’t get fooled often and takes care of the football.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are better than you’d think in this game with multiple difference makers on both sides of the ball and a defensive front that can play bully ball in the trenches. The New England Patriots also aren’t as good as they’ve been in years past and that defense can get gashed from time to time. With that said, there’s a clear difference in quarterback and the Pats take better care of the football as a whole.

I’ll take the New England Patriots and the somewhat reasonable chalk.
