The Las Vegas Raiders meet the Baltimore Ravens Monday in week 1 NFL Monday Night Football action at Allegiant Stadium. The Baltimore Ravens have made the playoffs each of the last three seasons and enter the 14th year under coach John Harbaugh. The Las Vegas Raiders finished 8-8 last year and look for their first playoff trip since 2016.
The Baltimore Ravens have won no less than nine games in each of the last four seasons and have high expectations once again. Lamar Jackson is one of the best young quarterbacks in the league and the passing attack should improve with the addition of Sammy Watkins. However, the injury to running back J.K. Dobbins is a massive blow, as he is an explosive player and was poised for a breakout season. Still, the Ravens are physical on offense and will have one of the best rushing attacks in the league. Defensively, the Ravens are solid in all three areas. Calais Campbell anchors the defensive line and linebacker Patrick Queen is coming off a strong rookie season. A secondary made up of Marcus Peters, DeShon Elliott, Chuck Clark and Marlon Humphrey is one of the best in the NFL. The Ravens should be thinking deep playoff run this season.
The Las Vegas Raiders hope to end their playoff drought, and they haven’t won a playoff game since 2002 when they won the Super Bowl. The Raiders offense should once again be explosive, as Henry Ruggs III, Josh Jacobs, Hunter Renfrow and Darren Waller give quarterback Derek Carr plenty of weapons. The issue for the Raiders last season was on defense, and that should change with the hiring of defensive coordinator Gus Bradley. The Raiders also brought in pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue, cornerback Casey Hayward Jr., defensive tackle Quinton Jefferson and drafted safety Tre’von Moehrig. If the Raiders defense makes positive strides, this is a playoff caliber team and there could be a lot of partying in Las Vegas this season.
The Ravens are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Raiders are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 Monday games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The under is 4-0 in Ravens last 4 games overall. The over is 12-3-1 in Raiders last 16 games overall. The home team is 7-2 ATS in their last 9 meetings.
The Ravens are going to be favored given their consistency under coach Harbaugh and the fact teams like that are usually given the benefit of the doubt entering the season. Until proven otherwise, the Ravens are the better team. With that said, the Raiders are explosive offensively and should be greatly improved defensively with the change at DC and the additions they made. The Raiders have a chance to be one of the more improved teams in the league and could surprise some folks. This is also the debut of Allegiant Stadium with fans, and you should expect a crazy atmosphere on Monday night. An outright Raiders win wouldn’t surprise me. Give me Las Vegas and the points.
