The Jacksonville Jaguars and Indianapolis Colts square off Sunday in week 2 NFL action from EverBank Field. The Colts posted a late comeback versus the Texans in their opener and managed a tie game. As for the Jaguars, they fell by six points to the Commanders in their first game of the year. Check back all season long for free NFL picks at Sports Chat Place.

Indianapolis had an early lead on Houston in their opener, but after two more quarters the Colts were in trouble and facing a 20-3 deficit. Indianapolis managed 17 points in the fourth to push overtime, and the teams ended up with a 20-20 tie at the end of the extra time.

Colts quarterback Matt Ryan was busy in the opener, going 32-of-50 for 352 yards, one touchdown and a pick. Jonathan Taylor managed 31 carries for 161 yards and a score, while Michael Pittman led the receiving attack on nine catches for 121 yards and a TD.

Over on the Jaguars’ side, they were down 14-3 against the Commanders at halftime in their opening game of 2022. Jacksonville made things interesting with nine points in the third quarter, but the team eventually fell 28-22 in a tough outcome.

Trevor Lawrence managed to go 24-of-42 for 275 yards, one TD and an interception in his first game. James Robinson led the rush with 11 carries for 66 yards and a score. Tops in receiving was Christian Kirk with six catches for 117 yards.

The Colts are 5-0 ATS in their last five games in Week 2 and 6-1 ATS in their last seven after an ATS loss. Indianapolis is 6-2 ATS in their last eight road games.

Meanwhile the Jaguars are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 at home and 4-11 ATS in their last 15 in Week 2. Jacksonville is 1-4 ATS in their last five versus the AFC.

PICK: I’m probably staying with Indianapolis here. Frankly the Colts are lucky that they’re not 0-1 right now, though. The good news is that Indianapolis did well statistically with 517 total yards, 33 first downs and 39:37 in time of possession. There were a couple of turnovers and some bad penalties but nothing that can’t be chalked up to first-game jitters (for now).

As for Jacksonville, they showed flashes of the team they could potentially be in their opener, but it was overshadowed by 13 penalties and a rough 3-of-12 rate on third-down tries. The Jags should look better in this one but I think Indianapolis is going to pull off the cover.
