Carolina Panthers vs Baltimore Ravens 8/21/21 NFL Picks, Odds, Predictions

The Carolina Panthers host the Baltimore Ravens Saturday in week 2 NFL preseason action at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte. The Baltimore Ravens look for another win after beating the New Orleans Saints. The Carolina Panthers look for a bounce back showing after losing to the Colts.

The Baltimore Ravens are coming off a win where they pulled away with a touchdown in the fourth quarter. In the victory, the Ravens produced 308 total yards and allowed 366 total yards. Trace McSorley led Baltimore with 86 passing yards and one interception while Tyler Huntley had 79 passing yards. Huntley led the Ravens with 43 rushing yards and one touchdown while Jaylon Moore and Devin Duvernay combined for 60 receiving yards. Defensively, Brandon Stephens led the Ravens with seven tackles, Patrick Queen had one sack and Geno Stone had two interceptions. The Ravens defense held up throughout the game and the ground attack averaged 4.4 yards per carry. Obviously, the Ravens will look even better once Lamar Jackson returns at quarterback.

The Carolina Panthers blew the game in the fourth quarter and struggled mightily on defense. In the losing effort, the Panthers produced 313 total yards and allowed 427 total yards. P.J. Walker led Carolina with 161 passing yards and one touchdown while Will Grier had 31 passing yards. Chuba Hubbard led the Panthers with 80 rushing yards and seven touchdowns while Terrace Marshall Jr. and Shi Smith combined for 114 receiving yards. Defensively, Jonathan Celestin led the Panthers with seven tackles, Marquis Haynes had one sack and Kenny Robinson had one interception. Preseason or not, the Panthers have to feel like they let a victory slip away. Also, the Panthers defense has to step up, as they allowed over 300 passing yards and gave up 24 first downs. Not good.

The Ravens are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Panthers are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games. The under is 4-0 in Ravens last 4 games overall. The under is 5-2 in Panthers last 7 home games. The over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings.

The Ravens are the better team at full strength, but they’re dealing with some injuries and Lamar Jackson isn’t going to play much in these meaningless games. P.J. Walker has been a baller since the XFL a couple years ago and Will Grier was a successful college quarterback who is capable of making plays against backup defenders. The Panthers aren’t a terrible preseason team. There’s value with the Panthers at home and the free field goal.
