The Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Jets meet Friday in NFL preseason action from MetLife Stadium. This will be the third and final exhibition game for both teams. The Eagles are sitting at 0-2 so far this preseason, falling to the Steelers and the Patriots. As for the Jets, they’re 2-0 after their first pair, beating the Giants and the Packers. Philadelphia played the Steelers in their first preseason game, ultimately falling 24-16 after a 16-7 halftime lead. The Eagles were outscored 17-0 in the second half. QB Joe Flacco managed a 10-of-17 line with 178 yards and a score, while Quez Watkins pulled in a 79-yard TD catch.
In game two against the Patriots, the Eagles couldn’t get anything going. Philly turned a 19-0 halftime deficit into a bad 35-0 loss, failing to get on the scoreboard. Flacco put up a 10-of-17 line again, this time with just 83 yards and an interception. Jack Stoll was the top receiver with four grabs for 33 yards.
Over on the Jets’ side, they managed to eke out a win in preseason week one, 12-7 over fellow New Yorkers the Giants. The Jets scored just three points in the first half. QB Zach Wilson went 6-of-9 passing with 63 yards, and Ty Johnson rushed nine times for 33 yards to lead the team.
In game two against the Packers, New York put up another win, this time 23-14. New York outscored Green Bay 6-0 in the second half to seal the victory. Wilson was even better in that one, with 128 yards and two scores off 9-of-11 passing. Michael Carter carried 10 times for 52 yards as well.
The Eagles are 1-4 ATS in their last five on turf and 0-4 ATS in their last four as a road underdog. Philly is 0-6 ATS in the last six road games and the over is 20-8 in their last 28 as a road underdog.
Meanwhile, the Jets are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven as a favorite. New York is 0-4 ATS in their last four games as a home favorite and 0-5 ATS in their last five meetings with Philly.
PICK: I’m probably going to stick with the Jets, but staying away. It’s tough telling how much time the marquis players from both sides will get on the field in this game, but I’d imagine we’ll see most of the key names for the first half. New York wasn’t particularly electric in their last game, with a relatively paltry 268 total yards and 5-of-13 efficiency on third downs. That said, the Eagles are coming off a dud, giving up 486 yards to their own 163 yards in the Patriots game. Philly will certainly look better in this one, but I think New York has enough talent to bang out a cover.
