NY Jets vs Washington Commanders Prediction 8-10-24 NFL Picks

The Washington Commanders and the New York Jets meet Saturday in NFL action from MetLife Stadium. Here’s a NY Jets vs Washington Commanders Prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Jets vs Commanders pick.

Washington Commanders Betting Preview

The Commanders had another rough campaign in 2023, their fourth and final under head coach Ron Rivera. Washington finished just 4-13 overall and in the basement of the NFC East. A Thanksgiving loss to the Dallas Cowboys led to multiple firings, and the downward trajectory continued from there.

Looking ahead to 2024, the Commanders will try to turn things around after their seventh straight season at .500 or worse. QB Jayden Daniels from LSU heads a pretty good draft haul, joined by names like Jer’Zhan Newton (Illinois) and Mike Sainristil (Michigan) on defense.

New York Jets Betting Preview

Over on the Jets’ side, we all know how their 2023 season panned out. After a season-ending injury to veteran QB Aaron Rodgers in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills, New York would land at 7-10 overall. That result left the team in third place in the AFC East and once again out of the playoffs.

New York will look to break their 13-year playoff drought (the longest current stretch in the NFL) with a healthy Rodgers (in what may be his final campaign) this year. If there’s good news, it’s that the expectations seem much more realistic in 2024; it’s no longer Super Bowl or bust.

NY Jets vs Washington Commanders Prediction

I’ll probably lean toward the Commanders here. There’s not much hope in attempting to predict a preseason opener, but this one seems like it’ll probably be a relatively boring affair. Sure, it’ll be nice to see both teams back on the field. That said, it’s also highly unlikely we’ll see much action from the key players on either side. Both teams have quite a bit of youth, as they’re (mostly) trying to build for some consistency in the future. That should make for a fairly sloppy game with a few flashes of brilliance here and there. I like Washington in a close one.
