Packers vs Jets Prediction 8/9/25 NFL Picks Today

In this article we will formulate a Packers vs Jets prediction for this NFL game on Saturday, August 9th at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Let’s take a look at the prediction for this week one matchup in the preseason.

Green Bay Packers Betting Preview

The Green Bay Packers went 11-6 last season and they finished third in the NFC North standings, despite having the fifth best record in the NFC. Green Bay started the season playing very well and they were able to avoid losing back to back games until the last two weeks of the season. The Packers picked up wins against the Colts, Titans, Rams, Cardinals, Texans, Jaguars, Bears, 49ers, Dolphins, Seahawks, and Saints, while they lost to the Eagles, Vikings (2), Lions (2), and Bears. The Packers did make the playoffs as a wild card, but they lost to Philadelphia by a score of 22-10. Green Bay scored 27.1 points per game in 2024, which was ranked 8th in the NFL, while they allowed 19.9 points against per game, which was ranked 6th.

Green Bay went 2-1 in the 2024 preseason, which was tied for third in the NFC North with the Lions. The Packers defeated Cleveland by a score of 23-10 in their first game, lost to Denver by a score of 27-2 in their second game, and finished with a 30-7 win over Baltimore in the finale. Green Bay is expected to play their starters in this game, which means we will see Jordan Love for at least a series or two. Once Love leaves the game, Green Bay will go with Malik Willis, Sean Clifford, and Taylor Elgersma, but it sounds like Willis may get the most playing time.

New York Jets Betting Preview

The New York Jets were 5-12 last year and they finished third in the AFC East standings, just one game above the last place Patriots. New York started the season 2-1 after three games, but they lost nine of the next ten games and never bounced back. The Jets picked up wins against the Titans, Patriots, Texans, Jaguars, and Dolphins, while they lost to the 49ers, Broncos, Vikings, Bills (2), Steelers, Patriots, Cardinals, Colts, Seahawks, Dolphins, and Rams. New York did play better in their last five games, but it was too little too late. The Jets scored 19.9 points per game last year, which was 24th in the NFL, while they allowed 23.8 points against per game, which was ranked 20th.

New York went 3-0 in the preseason last year and they were first in the AFC East, which is about the only thing that went right in 2024. The Jets beat Washington by a score of 20-17 in their first game, Carolina by a score of 15-12 in the second game, and the Giants by a score of 10-6 in the finale. New York is expected to play some starters in this game, so we should see Justin Fields under center. The Jets will turn to Adrian Martinez and Brady Cook after Fields is done, as Tyrod Taylor is not expected to dress.

Packers vs Jets Prediction

Green Bay comes into this matchup as a slight favorite to get the win, but with both teams planning to play some starters, we should be in for a good ballgame. The Packers will be leaning on Malik Willis in this game, who is a threat with his legs, but I am not sold on his passing ability. The Jets are at a bit of a disadvantage here with Taylor not playing, as I don’t believe in Adrian Martinez or Brady Cook. Take Green Bay to cover at home and let’s hope Willis can protect the ball.
