The Columbus Blue Jackets travel to New York to take on the Islanders on Saturday night.
Things didn't quite get off to the start that Columbus was looking for as they opened their season with a home loss to the Calgary Flames on Friday night. Jack Johnson and Marian Gaborik scored first period goals to even the score up both times after falling behind, but the Blue Jackets could never jump out in front in this one. In the third period Sergei Bobrovsky gave up back-to-back goals as Columbus fell behind for good on their way to a 4-3 defeat. Artem Anisimov tacked one on with under five minutes to play but it wasn't enough for the Blue Jackets. Still, once Bobrovsky gets into the swing of things this team should have enough depth to be competitive on a nightly basis. This should be a fun match up on Saturday with another up and coming hockey club in the New York Islanders.

It took the Islanders extra rounds in the skills competition but they finally skated out of the Prudential Center with a 4-3 shootout win over the New Jersey Devils on Friday. The Islanders fell behind twice in the game but both times it was Michael Grabner evening things up for New York. Grabner always seems to play well against the Devils and he came through in a big way here, using his speed to give Martin Brodeur and the Devils fits. Evgeni Nabokov made the saves when he needed to, making 26 saves to pick up the win. Frans Nielsen gave the Islanders the lead in the third period but the Devils would tie things up and send it into overtime. After five scoreless frames it was Matt Moulson scoring the game winner to lift the Isles to victory.
This should be an exciting hockey game between two new division rivals. Initially leaning toward the Islanders, the odds are just too good to pass up on a Columbus team that should be right in this the whole night.
