The St. Louis Blues host the Florida Panthers on Saturday night at the Scottrade Center.
It was an impressive debut for the Florida Panthers on Thursday night as they hit the road to take on the Dallas Stars. Trailing 2-1 in the second period it was the Russian rookie Aleksander Barkov getting the Panthers back even. Florida then got a pair of goals from Marcel Goc en route to a 4-2 win. Scott Gomez opened the scoring in the first period. Tim Thomas made his debut in goal and stopped 25 shots and could really be a big difference maker for this club if he can regain the form he played with in Boston. This club has some serious defensive holes but they’ve also never really had a goaltender of Thomas’ caliber. The question is whether or not the time off was detrimental but Thomas looked great in his first game in Dallas on Thursday.

St. Louis came out flying early in their opener against the Nashville Predators and never looked back. David Backes set the tone and opened up the scoring and Vladimir Sobotka and T.J. Oshie each added a goal to put the Blues up 3-0 before the 10 minute mark of the opening period. Alexander Steen added a power play goal in the second period and Jaroslav Halak made 28 saves to pick up the win. The Blues are loaded and should be one of the favorites to come out of the Western Conference this year. They’ve got depth and play together defensively about as well as any team in the league. If Halak can stay healthy they’ve got a great chance this year. They should be able to handle the Panthers on Saturday night.
