The Vancouver Canucks bounced back in a big way on Saturday night as they racked up their first win of the season with a big 6-2 win over the Edmonton Oilers. They fell behind two minutes in but answered right back and piled on. Brad Richardson's shorthanded goal less than two minutes after the Oilers had taken a 1-0 lead changed the momentum of the game and evened up the score. Late in the first period Dan Hamhuis and Jannik Hansen scored 18 seconds apart to give the Canucks a 3-1 lead. Daniel Sedin and Ryan Kesler added second period goals, and Jason Garrison finished the scoring in the third. Roberto Luongo made 21 saves in his second straight strong outing to secure the win.
One of the surprises through the first couple of games has to be the Calgary Flames and how well they've played offensively. This is a club that doesn't have too many game changers up front but they've got a lot of young kids who are hungry to make a name for themselves and right now it has been working for them. They've scored eight goals in their first two games, winning one and losing one. Seven different players have scored for this club but it's clear they're going to struggle in goal this year. Joey MacDonald and Karri Ramo just isn't a good enough goaltending duo to get it done in this league. Whoever is in there on Sunday is going to have their hands full with a Canucks club that fired 44 shots on net on Saturday night.
