The Lightning head to Buffalo for a grudge match with the Sabres as Tampa Bay looks for their second win of the season while the Sabres covet their first.
The Bolts have split their first two contests thus far but have looked quite solid in the process and will be out for two big points on the road against the struggling Buffalo Sabres. Tampa Bay will once again ride the scoring touch of Steven Stamkos and the play making abilities of Martin. St Louis but they also have a number of role players and secondary scoring options and an underrated goaltender in Ben Bishop who has assumed the starter’s role in Tampa Bay. The Lightning won’t have trouble scoring goals this season but the Sabres, despite their winless mark, have been quite competitive so far and have done a good job limiting the damage done by their opponent’s offense so we could see a very entertaining contest here. Bishop gets the call here who is going up against Jhonas Enroth as Ryan Miller gets the night off.

Buffalo has a lot of kinks to work out and is a team in a rebuilding mode after shedding a lot of salary at the end of last season by moving some veterans with big contracts. It wouldn’t surprise me if the Sabres did the same thing this season if they’re once again underachieving as Miller and Thomas Vanek are two names attracting a lot of attention but there is a lot of hockey left to be played and those decisions will take time. Playing at home has been kind to the Sabres in the past but they dropped their home opener to the Senators last Friday and matching up against a Lightning team that Is dangerous offensively might prove to be a difficult task to overcome. This is a very tight line and while Buffalo is an enticing play I think the Bolts have the advantage in net as Bishop has asserted himself as a starter in this league and I think he steps up big in this one.
