The Phoenix Coyotes will look to avenge an embarrassing loss on Long Island Tuesday night as they travel to the Motor City to take on the Red Wings.
The Coyotes are one of the peskiest teams in the league as they are a very tough team to play against and always seem to be in every contest, with the exception of their loss against the Islanders. Phoenix has qualified for the postseason over the past few seasons and always seems to give the upper echelon of teams a very hard time especially on the road. Mike Smith is locked in as the team’s number one goaltender for the next several years as he signed an extension with the club and with his ability to change the same single handily it was a no brainer that Coyotes brass got the deal done. Heading into Detroit, the Coyotes have dropped two games in a row and have just two points to their name thus far but with the Wings on tap you can be sure that the Coyotes and Smith will want to give an A-plus effort here, especially after the way they played on Tuesday.

The Red Wings are one of the deeper teams in the league as they have a ton of veteran talent and some great pieces at the back end and after winning their first two games they suffered their first loss of the season in their last outing. The addition of Daniel Alfredsson and Stephen Weiss has already been felt by the Wings and their fanbase and that will only continue to flourish as the season goes along, especially if the Wings get into the playoffs which have become an automatic for this club over the last two decades. Jimmy Howard continues to be one of the more underrated goalies in the league and he gives the Wings a chance every time he is in the crease, which he should be at the Joe here tonight. While I am tempted to take the Coyotes for the value here and I still might do, I think the play here is on the total and with Smith and Howard going face to face and the Coyotes coming off an awful loss to the Isles I think we see a tighter defensive effort from them and as such we see this one stay under the number.
