No longer division rivals this matchup between the Detroit Red Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets might not mean as much. Don't tell that to the Blue Jackets however who have spent years trying to measure up to the standard that the Red Wings have set and have never even been able to muster a sliver of it. Things look to be on the upswing in Ohio right now and their move to the Metropolitan division looks like it couldn't have come at a better time with all of the struggles the other teams in the division are facing. The Blue Jackets look like they're coming together as a team and they've got a goaltender that continues to prove that last season wasn't a fluke. If they can find a way to put the puck in the net consistently this should be a playoff team at the very least. Their opponent on Tuesday night got a big win over a division rival as they took down the Boston Bruins by a score of 3-2. Stephen Weiss and Daniel Cleary scored second period goals that proved to be the difference and Jonas Gustavsson made 28 saves to record the win. Detroit has beaten up on the Blue Jackets for years and while the Jackets would like nothing more than to show Detroit that things are changing it's still going to be a tall order for them in this one.
