NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on Ovechkin, tonight's TV schedule and more
October 15, 2013
There were just three games on the NHL schedule last night, but they made for some pretty intriguing hockey-watching in the end. Tonight we’ll be getting a huge dose of action on the ice, as there are a whopping 12 games going on out there. While we’re waiting, let’s take a closer look at some of the news-making players around the league and see what everyone’s up to out there. Here’s the latest.
Henrik Zetterberg, C, Detroit Red Wings: Zetterberg continued his great early-season production yesterday against the Bruins, and the Red Wings were able to post another nice offensive outing. Detroit would take the victory 3-2, with Zetterberg notching his fifth goal--and seventh point--of the season. Helping out were Stephen Weiss and Daniel Cleary, who each notched a goal.
Next up for the 4-2-0 Red Wings is a home game against Columbus tonight. They’ll follow that up with a trip to Colorado on Thursday.

Alex Ovechkin, RW, Washington Capitals: Ovechkin and the Caps were able to bounce back from a pretty ugly loss to the Avalanche over the weekend by taking it to the Oilers last night. Washington was able to post the victory on the strength of a three-goal second period, ultimately winning by a score of 4-2.
Ovechkin posted yet another goal and an assist, which gives him six scores and three helpers in six games thus far. He’s failed to post a point just once this year. Helping him out was Nicklas Backstrom, who managed a trio of assists.
Even with all the offensive talent, the Caps have been pretty uneven in the early-going. We’ll see how they follow this up tomorrow night at home against the visiting Rangers.
Jason Pominville, RW, Minnesota Wild: The Wild were the latest team to take advantage of the struggling Sabres, posting a 2-1 victory last night in Buffalo. Former Sabre Pominville dealt the finishing blow, a late-second-period power play goal that broke a 1-1 tie and would prove to be the game-winner. It was Pominville’s second score of the young season.
The Wild will try to keep their three-game win streak going as their road trip continues in Toronto tonight. After that it’s on to Tampa Bay on Thursday.
