The Montreal Canadiens head into Winnipeg to face a Jets team who has split their six games this season but are coming off a win on home ice.
Montreal ended the season in lackluster fashion last year as they were swept by the Ottawa Senators in the opening round of the playoffs but it looks as though they’re out for redemption this season as they’re playing with an edge and have won three of their first five games including two in a row. The Habs dropped a sloppy affair in Calgary but were dominant in Edmonton and Vancouver and now they complete their Western Canada road trip with a chance to go three for four. Montreal is built from the back end out but has plenty of reliable scoring options, and they’ll need to be firing if they want to contend with the Jets and a home crowd that Is one of the best in the league. Carey Price is likely to get the nod against Ondrej Pavelec for Winnipeg.

The Jets meanwhile are a team many have pegged as a Western Conference dark horse as they’re very well balanced up front, have a solid blue line, and a goaltender looking to prove himself which makes for a pretty scary recipe if things fall into place. However, back up net minder Al Montoya, who has been with the team since their return to Winnipeg, has been sensational in his relief efforts and should be considered for the starter’s role if Pavelec can’t step up his game and assert himself as an everyday option. While it is hard to gauge a game like this from a hypothetical standpoint I think the Habs can get to Pavelec and if they can acquire an early lead I see them holding on and riding the ability of Carey Price to close out games. Take the Canadiens on the road at a great price.
