The Calgary Flames head into Anaheim looking for a confidence boosting victory while the Ducks look to continue their winning ways at home.
Calgary has been one of the bigger surprises so far in this young season as many had them pegged to finish dead last in the NHL this season, and while that is still a possibility, they have shown signs of life in the early going and haven’t been the push over some expected them to be. Calgary was gutted in the offseason as they lost long time net minder Miikka Kiprusoff to retirement as well as a sloew of others to different homes leaving the Flames in a position of rebuild that they’re surely going to do the right way now that Brian Burke is in control. Karri Ramo has been decent this season but it looks like it is Joey Macdonald’s starting job to lose and he will likely get the nod for the Flames in this spot against the Ducks.

The Ducks meanwhile have started off the season like many thought they would as they’re right in the thick of things in the Western Conference and have won four in a row after dropping their season opener on the road against the Avalanche. Anaheim is coming off a convincing victory over the Ottawa Senators and a large part of their success has come from the play of Jonas Hiller in the crease, who seems to be revitalized this season and has his focus in the right place. Anaheim is a pretty heavy favourite in this spot as they’re at home and have the better team but for some reason this game seems a bit iffy to me as Calgary seems like they have nothing to lose and are playing that way which is dangerous for opponents. I am going to go out on a limb and take the Flames to keep it close and while this could burn us as the Ducks could smash the Flames I like the odds Calgary is getting here with Macdonald in goal.
