It was a slow start to their game on Thursday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs but the Carolina Hurricanes finished strong and that's what matters most. After a scoreless first period the Hurricanes outshot Toronto 14-6 during the second period but found themselves trailing by two goals after Cam Ward was beaten twice on those six shots. Instead of being deflated heading into the intermission the Hurricanes came out just as hard in the third and got goals from Ryan Murphy, Eric Staal, and Ron Hainsey to rally for a 3-2 victory. They'll head to Long Island to take on an Islanders club that's 3-2-2 after John Tavares' goal late in the second period lifted them to victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night. Josh Bailey and Kyle Okposo also scored and Evgeni Nabokov made 27 saves to record the win. If the Islanders are going to stay in this race throughout the season they're going to need their offense to dictate play like they did in this game. They're not all that strong on the backend and Nabokov can be up and down at times so they need to keep control of the puck and keep it in their opponents zone. Saturday night will be a good test for them.
