The Vancouver Canucks head into Columbus on Sunday coming off a tough loss in a shootout against the Pittsburgh Penguins last night while the Jackets dropped another decision, this time to the Washington Capitals.
The Canucks battled hard to earn a point against the Penguins yesterday but deserved a better fate as they played one of their better games of the season and Roberto Luongo was brilliant but unfortunately they couldn’t secure the second point and now play their second game in as many days. The Canucks are once again favourites to make some noise in the Western Conference however they are flying under the radar a bit as there are other teams that have surpassed them as the team to beat. Offensively, the Canucks have been rather quiet this season but against a Blue Jackets team who has struggled out of the gates it could be time for a coming out party for John Tortorella’s bunch.

Columbus was predicted to make some noise in the Eastern Conference this season as they brought in some reinforcements on offense and finished last season on a high note but so far they have just two wins in seven contests and have looked marginal at best. The Jackets do have some talent but if they want to make the playoffs they’ll need another solid season from Sergei Bobrovsky as he is coming off a Vezina winning campaign in which he was honoured as the league’s top goalie. This is a tough spot I think for Columbus as they travel back from DC to host Vancouver here and while the Canucks lost a heartbreaker I think they rebound here and get the best of Columbus who is likely to start Curtis McIlhenny.
