The Washington Capitals look to spoil the party in Winnipeg as these two former Southeast division rivals hook up at the MTS Centre.
The Capitals head into Winnipeg two games under the .500 mark as they’re just 3-5 on the season through their first eight contests and they have dropped both games on the road. The Caps were expected to be a team on the rise this year after they had a very strong second half last year before bowing out in the first round to the Rangers but so far they have looked average at best. Alex Ovechkin is surely doing his part as he is lighting up the scoresheet but the lack of secondary offense has been the Achilles heel for the Caps who have also struggled in the defensive zone and in the crease. Braden Holtby gets the nod here as he squares off against Ondrej Pavelec for the Jets.

Winnipeg is another team that has underachieved a bit to start the season though I think they are bound to turn things around as I think they have a very solid lineup that matches up well against a lot of teams. Winnipeg does have this mystique about them playing at the MTS Centre as it is one of the loudest buildings in the league and while three of their four wins have come at home they have also dropped four contests in Manitoba. The Jets are at home once again here and face a Caps team who is dreadful on the road so we could see a shift back to normal for the Jets at home but they’ll need to have a great game in their own end. The Jets have a physical blue line that can also chip in and score but will need a solid to way game here and capitalize on transitions in the neutral zone if they want to limit the damage done by Ovechkin. I am buying into the Jets at home one more time and if it fails here it will become obsolete moving forward in my books until they right the ship.
