Daniel Alfredsson will take a stab at his former club on Wednesday when the Ottawa Senators come to town. After four consecutive wins the Detroit Red Wings have now lost two straight as they look to bounce back in this one. After Saturday night's 5-2 defeat in Phoenix they returned home to host the red hot San Jose Sharks and couldn't solve Antti Niemi. They couldn't get any of their 24 shots past the Sharks netminder and couldn't solve him in the shootout either. They did hold a potent and dangerous San Jose offense to zero goals and weren't able to find the win despite controlling play in the third period. Jimmy Howard made 27 saves in regulation but was beaten by Logan Couture in the skills competition as Detroit fell by a final of 1-0. Now they'll host an Ottawa club that's trying to rebound from an extremely poor showing against a bad Edmonton Oilers club on home ice Saturday afternoon. Ottawa was scored on just over two minutes into the match and allowed another first period goal that they could never recover from. They had their chances against Edmonton goalie Devan Dubnyk but couldn't find the back of the net until Chris Neil's goal late in the third period. An empty net goal would seal the deal in Edmonton's 3-1 win. This should be an entertaining hockey game on Wednesday night with both teams needing to shake off their recent struggles.
