The Penguins and Maple Leafs do battle at the ACC in what some are calling a possible playoff preview between two of the better teams in the East.
There is no denying that the Penguins are one of the most talented teams in the NHL as they have world class talent all over the rink but they’ll only be remembered for winning titles and over the last couple of seasons their quest to reach that pinnacle has been underwhelming. Sidney Crosby is the best player in the game and Evgeni Malkin is in the conversation as well and with goaltender Marc Andre Fleury returning to form there is a lot of excitement this year in Pittsburgh. They are however coming of a loss to the New York Islanders, their second in as many games and now head into the Air Canada Centre to face a Maple Leafs team who looked very sloppy on the road in Columbus last night. Fleury is expected to get the start while James Reimer is slated to make his return to action for the Maple Leafs.

Toronto has pulled out some impressive wins this season against some of the league’s best teams but they have also come away victorious in a couple of games they had no business winning and have dropped some games against much inferior opponents. The problem the Leafs have faced this season is that they’re giving up way too many shots and are forcing Jonathan Bernier to bail them out and while that recipe has had success at times they have also been bitten like they did in Columbus last night. The Leafs need to do a better job in front of their goaltenders and prevent such a huge disparity in shots for and against especially against a team like the Penguins. While the Leafs are a team that is more than capable of bouncing back after a tough outing the night before I just don’t like this spot for them and how many times are you going to get a price like this on the Penguins. Take Pittsburgh.
