The Dallas Stars look to climb out of the Central division basement when they head to Buffalo to take on a Sabres team looking to escape the NHL basement.
The Stars had larger than usual expectations coming into the season after they sent Loui Eriksson to the Bruins for Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley but so far the Stars have underachieved and haven’t looked the part of playoff contender. While the Stars have some holes in their roster they do have the talent to compete with almost anybody as they have a pretty well balanced attack and now see the return of Kari Lehtonen who is hands down the best goaltender on the roster. Heading into Buffalo the Stars will look to improve on their 1-4 road record and this might be the perfect place to do so as the Sabres are dreadful and have lost all seven games this season at the First Niagara Centre. Lehtonen gets the start as he goes up against Ryan Miller for the Sabres.

Buffalo has had a very tumultuous beginning to the season as they have fallen flat out of the starting blocks and now the panic button has officially been pressed as they have dealt all star forward Thomas Vanek to the New York Islanders. The Sabres did get serviceable forward Matt Moulson plus two great draft picks including a first and second rounder but that almost solidifies that they’re throwing in the towel this season and building for the future. Ryan Miller could be the next name to find a new home as his expiring contact is something the Sabres could do without especially with the results they have produced this season. While a trade can create a fresh start I think this is a horrible spot for the Sabres as Dallas is a good team that is underachieving and with their starting netminder back in the fold I think they start to climb the standings.
