The Maple Leafs begins their Western Canada road trip at Rexall Place as they look to hand the Oilers another loss at home.

Toronto fell in a deciding game seven in last year’s playoffs and while the anguish of the result still haunts Leafs players and fans alike it has acted as a blessing in disguise as they have come out firing this season and look like one of the game’s best teams. The Leafs are coming off an impressive 4-1 victory over Sidney Crosby and the Penguins on Saturday night in Toronto which has put them in a tie with the Tampa Bay Lightning atop the Atlantic division. The Leafs play three tough games in a four night stretch that ends in Vancouver this weekend so they know how important getting the first game of the trip under their belt is and two points would be huge. The Leafs outlasted the Oilers in Toronto when the two teams met a couple weeks ago but they definitely took the young Oilers for granted, something I don’t imagine they will do in this one.

The Oilers continue to have impressive outings from a game play stand point but they can’t seem to piece it all together when it matters most and as such they aren’t finding the results they need. The Oil fell in Phoenix in Jason Lababera’s return to the desert and followed that up with a shootout loss to the Kings in which goaltender Richard Bachman had his best game as a professional in a losing effort. Now, Edmonton returns home looking to exact revenge on the Leafs for their come from behind overtime thriller a few weeks back and they’ll need a total team effort here. Edmonton head coach Dallas Eakins is facing the franchise that gave him work in the minors for so many years and he would like nothing more than to show his former employers what they passed up on. Unfortunately for Eakins and the Oilers I think the Leafs will be a focused bunch here and with a number of players treating this trip as a homecoming you can be sure they’d love to put on a show. Take the Leafs.
