The Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche lock horns in Denver as some familiar faces reconvene at the Pepsi Center.
The Canadiens went into Minnesota last night and fell short of their ninth win of the season and have since dropped down to 5th place in the Metro division but perhaps their sights were set on tonight’s tilt with the Avalanche. Montreal heads into Denver where the team will play against legendary goaltender Patrick Roy who played for both Montreal and Colorado during his career winning a Stanley Cup with each. While there may not be much of a rivalry between these two teams there certainly are a ton of storylines in this game and outside of the Roy angle lies an opportunity for current Montreal goalie Petr Budaj to exact revenge against his former team as well as a ton of players from Colorado who are playing against their boyhood fanfare.

The Avalanche have been the talk of the league this season as they’re off to an amazing start sitting in first place in the NHL with an 11-1 mark including an overtime win over the Dallas Stars last night. The Avs did receive a bit of public scrutiny over their decision to play goaltender Semyon Varlamov just a day after being released from prison on accusations of domestic abuse and kidnapping but the Avs got the win regardless and now head back home for a huge tilt with Montreal. I was on Dallas last night and while they came up short I think we see a different result here tonight with the Canadiens. Petr Budaj has been special this season and while Giguere has been just as impressive I think the visitors get the best of the Avs in this spot.
