The Red Wings complete their Western Canada road swing as they head into the MTS Centre to take on a struggling Winnipeg Jets club.
The Detroit Red Wings were a staple in the Western Conference playoff picture over the past 20 years as they made the postseason in each occasion and were a threat to win the Cup every time they touched the ice. Now that the Wings are in the Eastern Conference many people think they have an even better chance to do some damage in the postseason and one of those reasons is due to their familiarity with the Western Conference and their regular season opponents. Detroit has looked very good so far this season sitting with a 9-4-2 record including three straight victories over the Canucks, Flames, and Oilers whom they ransacked by a 5-0 mark on Saturday. Jimmy Howard gets the start after taking the night off against the Oilers as he matches up against Ondrej Pavelec who will look to get the Jets back in the win column.

The Jets entered the season as a dark horse pick to do some damage in the postseason as they made their move from the East to the West after their first two years back in the ‘Peg were in the Southeast division. However, it is starting to become apparent that the Jets’ moderate success and label as an up and comer was diluted by the fact they were in the Southeast which had become the laughing stock of the league and had the Panthers as the division champ two seasons ago. Winnipeg had built up a strong reputation of being a tough home ice team and while the building is still as loud as ever the results have been less than desirable and they need to find a way to the right the ship soon. Claude Noel, the outspoken coach of the Jets has been rumored to be on the hot seat for a while and if the losing ways continue it may come to fruition sooner than some people anticipate. While the law of average would lean us to side with the Jets as they have lost three straight while the Wings have won three straight I think the better play here is on the Wings who are the superior team and we can no longer account for the Winnipeg home ice factor until they prove they can win.
