The Calgary Flames look to move a gam above .500 with a road victory in Minnesota while the Wild look for their third straight win and seventh on home ice.
The Flames were projected to finish in the league basement this season and line themselves up for a top end prospect in April’s draft as they’re going through a massive rebuild but so far this season they have actually played quite well and have been a nice surprise. The Flames lost franchise goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff to retirement and former captain Jarome Iginla to a trade and free agency so speculation in Calgary was that the team was going to undergo a full facelift and the selection of Sean Monahan in last year’s draft was the first step into that process. Luckily for the Flames Monahan has been spectacular and the rest of the team seems to have rallied around him and as such they are pulling off some impressive victories and they’ll look to do so once again here against the red hot Minnesota Wild.

Minnesota was pegged as a Stanley Cup contender last season after they acquired both Zach Parise and Ryan Suter in free agency but they couldn’t seem to string together a consistent enough effort to really make an impact in the playoffs. The Wild were swept in the opening round by the Blackhawks and were forced back to the drawing board in the offseason as they continue to find their niche and identity. However, it appears as though the magic is here as Minnesota has been very good this season and a large oart of their success has been the emergence of Josh Harding as the team’s most reliable netminder after he won the job from Nick Backstrom. The Wild have a huge goaltending edge in this contest as they have Harding going up against Reto Berra who is an unknown to many and while he was strong in his season debut this is a whole different ball game. I look for Minny to dominate this contest and taking them on the puck line is a more than viable option.
