The Vancouver Canucks look to build on their Saturday night victory over the Maple Leafs as they head to the desert to take on a suddenly surging Phoenix Coyotes.
The Canucks had arguably their best game of the season on Saturday night in Toronto as they dominated the Leafs to the tune of a 4-0 final and looked like the team we have come to expect. The Canucks are fresh off extending their two best players in Daniel and Henrik Sedin for another four seasons and now that the contracts and off ice distractions are taken care of the Canucks can focus on the product on the ice. Vancouver sits in fourth place in the Pacific division but are just a single point back of the Coyotes and have already recorded 10 wins on the year. Roberto Luongo who got the shutout on Saturday will once again tend the goal for the Canucks as he goes head to head with Mike Smith of the Coyotes.

Phoenix has raced out to a very impressive start to the season as they sit in third place in the Pacific division with a 10-3-2 mark and have won four straight heading into Tuesday’s encounter with Vancouver. The Coyotes are the type of team that no one likes to play against as they don’t have an overbearing of superstar power but a solid roster from top to bottom where all four lines have to be considered in opposing game plans. Mike Smith continues to shine in the Coyotes’ crease and he is continuing his audition to be considered for a spot on the Canadian Olympic team and this game could go a long way to doing so as he matches up against the team’s projected starter. This is a very tough game to look at as the Coyotes no doubt have been playing very well this season but Vancouver is no slouch and to me are the better team overall. Phoenix is getting some juice here as a home favourite and to me I don’t think they’re quite there as a -130 favourite against a perennial Stanley Cup contender.
