The red hot Colorado Avalanche hope to continue their winning ways as they head into Carolina to take on a Hurricanes team who is looking to reach the .500 mark with a win tonight.
The Avalanche have been the talk of the league this season as they have raced out to a ridiculous 14-2 mark and sit with the best record in the NHL through the first 16 games of the year. Colorado was a team who was supposed to do well last season but just couldn’t get things together but it appears as though they have finally hit their potential as they’re tearing up the league right now. The AVs have yet to lose a game on the road this season which doesn’t bode well for a Canes team who is still without Cam Ward and will be leaning on Justin Peters between the pipes. Semyon Varlamov continues to get the call in the Avs’ crease and he will match up against Peters here tonight.

The Hurricanes have struggled to find consistency in their game so far this season and after a disappointing campaign last year in which they missed the postseason they look as though they’re on the same track again this year. Carolina has a nice offensive unit that has them competing but they haven’t been able to stop enough pucks to be competitive this season and their -16 goal differential is among the worst in the league. Eric and Jordan Staal have to find a way to step up the Canes’ offensive attack especially against a Colorado team who has been ripping through the best teams in the game. Getting the Canes as a big home dog is tempting but the Avs have simply been unstoppable this season and there is no reason to believe they won’t continue that against the Canes here tonight.
