The Pittsburgh Penguins look to avenge a loss on home ice to their hated cross-state rivals from Philadelphia as they host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday night.
The Predators head into Pittsburgh sporting an ugly three game losing streak as they are finally feeling the effects of losing goaltender Pekka Rinne to injury and now they face a Penguins team who is also in a slump and will be desperate for a win here tonight. Nashville has always prided themselves on being a very tough and stingy defensive unit with great goaltending and while the former may still hold true the latter is suffering as Carter Hutton is not the answer for a full season of work. Nashville is struggling offensively which could prove to be a huge problem heading into Pittsburgh tonight as the Pens are one of the best offensive teams in the game. Hutton gets the nod for the Preds here as he matches up against Marc-Andre Fleury.

Pittsburgh finds themselves in the midst of a three game slide as well with the latest coming against the Flyers which is always a physical and emotional drain on both teams. The Pens need to find a way out of their current rut as the Caps are hot on their heels and the rest of the Eastern Conference is starting to skate away from them. However, with the roster the Penguins possess it won’t be long before they’re back towards the top of the league standings and that should start tonight against the Predators. Pittsburgh hasn’t looked good during their three game slide but they have been competitive and if they caught a break or two in their favour in any of the three contests this could be a non-issue. I think this is a dreadful spot for the Predators as do the odds makers as the Pens are big time favourites here but that’s the only play here as I think they wallpaper the Predators at home.
