Life around the NHL has been pretty busy lately, with a packed schedule last night. Things won’t be slowing up today, either, as we’ve got nine games headed our way. While we’re waiting on the pucks to drop, let’s take a look around the league at some of the notable players out there and see what everyone’s up to right now. Here’s the latest.

Evgeni Malkin, C, Pittsburgh Penguins: The Penguins have been slumping recently, but at least Malkin has been consistent. He posted a pair of assists in Pittsburgh’s 4-1 win over the Predators, running his points streak to six games. Malkin hasn’t been scoring (another area of consistency for him), but he’s been trickling in the helpers, with 15 on the season.
The Pens will be in New Jersey tonight, followed by a Monday game at home against the Ducks.

Jason Spezza, C, Ottawa Senators: The Bruins were firmly in control last night against the Senators, but then something clicked. After falling behind 0-2, Ottawa rattled off four straight goals to take the game 4-2. Spezza aided the cause with a goal and an assist. He now has nine of each on the year.
That brings the Sens’ record to 8-7-4 thus far. They’re going to be finishing up their home-stand tomorrow night against Columbus, then heading out to Philadelphia on the 19th.

Alex Ovechkin, RW, Washington Capitals: Speaking of blowing leads, the Red Wings did just that at home last night against the Capitals. Ovechkin notched a goal in the third period during the comeback effort, helping his team to what would eventually be a 4-3 shootout win. Ovechkin now has 15 goals on the year to go along with seven assists.
The Caps are sitting at 11-8-1 as they head into tonight’s home game against the Blues. After that, the Penguins will come in on the 20th, and the Canadiens on the 22nd.

Tomas Hertl, C, San Jose Sharks: The rookie Hertl keeps peppering in the points, and it’s helping the Sharks put together an impressive run during the last few games. He managed a goal late in the first period of the Sharks’ 3-1 win over the Oilers last night, giving him 12 scores on the young season and four in his last six games. Hertl also has a half-dozen assists.
The last game on the Sharks’ current road trip will be tonight in Chicago. After that, it’s back home to begin a five-game home stand starting with Tampa Bay on the 21st.

NHL Daily Schedule: We have 18 teams in action today, so there’s a good chance your favorite squad will be out there on the ice. That said, here’s a look at the entire schedule, as well as the start times and TV networks carrying the games.
