The Blue Jackets head into Edmonton to take on the Oilers as both teams look to move up the league standings.

Columbus made the shift to the Eastern Conference this season and after they finished last year a lot of people had them pegged as a playoff team for 2014 after making some offseason moves. However, things haven’t really taken flight yet for Columbus and they continue to be the same old Blue Jackets as they sit in seventh in the Metro division and are only leading the Flyers by a single point. Columbus has faltered of late sporting a 2-5-3 mark over their last 10 contests and now head into Edmonton to face an equally disappointing Oilers team. Sergei Bobrovsky has emerged a legitimate number one option in goal over the past year and a bit and is the reigning Vezina Trophy winner but so far this season Bobo hasn’t been able to generate the same magic and as such the Blue Jackets sit where they do. Bobrovsky will square off with Devan Dubnyk on tonight’s contest, one that both teams desperately need to win.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Columbus Blue Jackets - 11/19/13

The Oilers have been dreadful this season and as such general manager Craig MacTavish went on record and discusses his team’s disappointing start which for the time being appears to have resonated with his players. Edmonton for the first time all year showed some resiliency as they went into Calgary on Saturday now and feel into a quick 2-0 hole but rallied for a nice 4-2 victory that has to give them some confidence moving forward. While Calgary aren’t exactly world beaters it is always a tough place to play especially for the Oilers as the teams are such bitter rivals and even if both teams are underachieving when they meet up it always matters. Edmonton returns home to face another winnable contest as they match up well against the Blue Jackets as Edmonton has great team speed and much deeper forwards and if Dubnyk can be serviceable I think the Oilers have a great chance to win. I am taking the home team here in a game I probably won’t touch.
