The Penguins and Capitals meet up in DC as these two rivals battle for top spot in the Metropolitan division in what should be a very exciting affair.
The Penguins were in the midst of an offensive slump by their standards and weren’t getting the results they coveted but they broke out of it in their last contest and while they only scored three goals they held the high octane Ducks to a single goal and got a much needed victory. Sidney Crosby and the Penguins head into Washington on Wednesday night to face off against Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals and while it is still early on in the year these teams simply hate each other and this should be a heated contest. The Penguins have found most of their success at home this season as they’re just 4-5 on the road while the Caps are 8-3 at home but it is the Pens who are slight favourites in this one. Marc Andre Fleury gets the call for the Pens while Braden Holtby will be in the crease for Washington.

The Capitals have won three straight contests and propel themselves into first place in the Metro division with a win against the Pens here but it will be a tough task to accomplish. Washington hasn’t been overly impressive on the road this season but at home they have been brilliant and should be able to take advantage of a Penguins team who hasn’t been able to generate much success on the road. Alex Ovechkin is tied for the league lead in goals with 17 and while he trails Sidney Crosby in total points the two are neck and neck and should play a factor once again here tonight. However, I think the Capitals are better than a lot of people think and while the standings are closer than some people think these teams are I think Washington is the play here as they’re a great team at home and the Verizon Center crowd will surely be ready for this one. Take the Caps as a nice home dog.
