It was a pretty poor performance from the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night but one they still walked away from with two points. Playing the second night of a back-to-back the Bruins were a step slow all night long against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The Bruins gave up 40+ shots and if it weren't for the sensational play of Tuukka Rask, Boston never would have stood a chance in this one. This is what we've come to expect from a team like the Bruins however and it's something that we see good teams do all the time. Boston just finds ways to win and on Tuesday night they had Shawn Thornton and Daniel Paille chip in with goals to get them a 2-1 win. Paille's goal came shorthanded as he beat Henrik Lundqvist on a beautiful backhand between the legs. Now the Bruins get an even bigger chalenge on Thursday night when the St. Louis Blues come to town.
St. Louis fell behind the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night just 10 seconds into the game, before half the crowd had even taken their seats at the First Niagra Center. Some teams might have let that snowball on them but the Blues are just too good and they were playing an opponent far too inferior. Brenden Morrow tied things up less than a minute later, Vladimir Tarasenko scored in the final minute of the first period to give the Blues the lead, and Morrow and Magnus Paajarvi added goals to lift St. Louis to a 4-1 win. Jaroslav Halak recorded the victory with 21 saves on the night. These two teams are mirror images of one another and it will be interested to see who tries to force the issue in this one. There's some value on St. Louis here because overall they look like the better team at this point in the season.
