The Dallas Stars did everything they could possibly do to get a win on Thursday night against the New York Rangers and it still wasn't good enough. The Stars fired 23 shots at Henrik Lundqvist in the opening period and 40+ for the game but still fell to the Ranges by a score of 3-2. Dallas even scored a power play goal on home ice for the first time this season but a couple of defensive breakdowns early in the third period cost them the victory in this one. Still the Stars look like they have figured something out and with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn playing the way they are there is a lot to look forward to in the Lone Star State. Dallas is 11-8-2 on the season and they've won six of their eight games this month. Watching this team play it's clear to see that they have a lot of chemistry with one another and Kari Lehtonen is one of the most underrated goaltenders in the league right now. Add that to the fact that the Stars play in a non-traditional hockey market and you've got a team that nobody is paying attention to that is pretty good. St. Louis will be a huge challenge for the Stars but this is definitely one of the best match ups of the day on Saturday. The Blues are 15-3-3 on the year and they picked up another win in the shootout on Thursday night, 3-2, over the Bruins in Boston. It concluded a three game road trip and now the Blues return home for two straight games against the Stars and Wild. St. Louis has everything a hockey club needs to go deep into the post season but this is another one of those Western Conference teams that won't be judged until the playoffs. The Blues could win every game remaining on their schedule and it will still be a failure if they flame out in the post season yet again. Their young players are growing and getting more experience and the Blues have plenty of veteran presence but it needs to all manifest itself over the course of a grueling playoff series.
