Cam Talbot has been a huge addition for the New York Rangers since replacing Marty Biron as the backup goaltender. Talbot recorded his second consecutive shutout on Saturday night in Nashville as the Rangers defeated the Predators by a score of 2-0. Head coach Alain Vigneault said coming into the season that he wanted a backup that could spell Henrik Lundqvist at least 20 times this season and Talbot has given him every indication that he'll be able to do just that. New York got a second period goal on a deflection from Ryan McDonagh and Derek Stepan sealed the win after he finished off a beautiful feed from Zuccarello. The victory was New York's sixth straight road win and bumped them back up over .500 for the season. Henrik Lundqvist should return to the lineup on Monday night as the Rangers head to Tampa Bay to take on the Lightning.
The Lightning have now lost four straight games after thir excellent start to the season but at least on Friday night they did a better job defensively. Heading into their meeting in Anaheim against the Ducks the Lightning had lost three straight games and allowed a total of 16 goals. All four of those losses came on the road so the Lightning will be looking forward to getting back home for Monday night's match up with the Rangers. Ben Bishop was fantastic against the Ducks, making 41 saves before Ryan Getzlaf beat him in the overtime period to give Anaheim the 1-0 win. If the Lightning can get goaltending like that consistently from Bishop they'll be in great shape. Right now this hockey club is just trying to survive without Steven Stamkos in the lineup. Everybody knows the Lightning can score goals but preventing them is a different story. This should be one of those games where if the Lightning can draw some penalties and get their power play going they should be in good shape against a New York club that has a hard time scoring themselves.
