The Line: Washington Capitals -157 / Ottawa Senators +143 --- Over/Under: 5.5 See the Latest Odds

The Senators look to right the ship when they head on the road to D.C. to take on the Capitals at the Verizon Centre. The Capitals meanwhile will look to avenge a loss to the Maple Leafs on the weekend as they fell in a shootout.

The Senators have had a bit of a disappointing season thus far as they sport a 9-11-4 mark and have just five wins in their last 10 contests but there is still plenty of time to turn things around and that could start on the road against the Capitals. Ottawa had huge expectations coming into the season after the way they performed in last year’s playoffs but so far they have underachieved and haven’t been able to generate the same success as they have the previous couple years. The loss of Daniel Alfredsson both on the ice an in the dressing room is a big one for sure but the addition of Bobby Ryan was supposed to rectify that void but so far to no avail. Craig Anderson has also had his struggles so far this season and GM Bryan Murray and head coach Paul MacLean may opt to make the move of bringing in Robin Lehner as the full time starter.

Washington has had a bit of an up and down season as well but sit in a better position than their Wednesday night opponents as they sit with a 12-10-2 mark and sit in second place in the Metropolitan division. The Caps are traditionally a very strong home team but so far this season they’re just 8-5 at the Verizon Center and while that is a respectable mark it doesn’t account for their lackluster road effort. Alex Ovechkin is on an absolute torrid goal scoring pace right now as he continues his quest for 50 in 50 which is a very rare feat that few have accomplished. Braden Holtby has been serviceable in goal but he needs to be better if the Caps want to complete come playoff time and against a struggling Sens team this looks like the perfect spot to do so. I like the home team here even though the line is a bit exaggerated I think the Caps get the job done.
