The Philadelphia Flyers might have enjoyed getting out of the cold and into the Florida sun this past week but unfortunately the results weren't what they had hoped for. Consecutive losses to the Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning set the Flyers back to 10-12-2 after they had put a nice stretch together there to get back to .500. The Flyers struggled to put the puck in the net these last two games and that's something that was plaguing them early in the year. Vincent Lecavalier returned to Tampa on Friday night and registered a goal, his ninth of the season, but it came after the Flyers already trailed by three goals. Mark Streit's first goal of the season cut the Lightning lead to 3-2 but Philadelphia could never get the equalizer. Ray Emery got the start in goal and took the loss after allowing three goals on 34 shots. Excpet to see Steve Mason back between the pipes in this one. With the Thanksgiving holiday comes an extremely rare 11:30 start in this one so there could be some issues for both teams getting going here.
The Winnipeg Jets couldn't have gotten their road trip off to a better start with consecutive wins over the New Jersey Devils and New York Islanders. Winnipeg took advantage of a New York club that has really been struggling of late and they jumped out in front and were able to hold on for another big road win. After a scoreless first period it was Mark Stuart, Andrew Ladd, and Devin Setoguchi scoring in just over a five minute span to give the Jets a 3-0 lead. Al Montoya allowed a late second period goal and another midway through the third but he held on from there, finishing the night with 28 save to pick up the win. Winnipeg still has four more road games on this trip before returning home on December 10th. It's going to be tough to get up early for this one but if the Jets can stay in this thing early they've got a great chance to pick up their third straight win on this trip. Early starts like this one are usually good bets for low scoring hockey games as the players are out of their routine, sluggish, and tend to play it safe.
