The Penguins and Lightning do battle from Tampa Bay as both teams look to extend their current winning streaks and ascend up the Eastern Conference standings.
Pittsburgh is coming off one of their most impressive efforts of the season not for the sake of absolutely dominating their opponent like we are used to seeing but in showing their resiliency and rallying back from a tough early deficit to the Maple Leafs. The Pens were down 4-1 and 5-2 at different points during their contest in Pittsburgh on Wednesday but they stormed back and delivered the home crowd with a shootout victory. Pittsburgh is loaded up front with some of the best players in the game and as such they sit in first place in the otherwise underwhelming Metropolitan division and they’ll look to pad their lead when they head into Tampa Bay but it won’t be easy. Marc Andre Fleury gets the start as he matches up against Ben Bishop who has to be one of the early favourites for the Vezina Trophy.

Tampa Bay is a solid team that can score goals with anyone but that took a serious blow when they lost their star forward in Steven Stamkos a few weeks ago in Boston. However, the Bolts have responded brilliantly and while they went on a slide when they were on the road they have bounced back nicely and have a chance to make a statement that they’re for real when they host the Penguins tonight. Martin St. Louis continues his ageless wonder as he continues to be one of the best playmakers in the game and with some former Penguins in this one including Ryan Malone you can bet they’ll be motivated to perform well against their former team. However, I think the Pens are just too strong here and with James Neal healthy and Evgeni Malkin starting to pick it up I just don’t see how the Bolts can compete without Stammer in this one. Taking Pittsburgh.
