The Phoenix Coyotes continue their Western Canada road swing as they move from Edmonton to Calgary for a date with the Flames on Wednesday night.
The Coyotes will look to steal a win in Calgary on Wednesday night after they (leading 3-1 at the time of writing) defeated the Edmonton Oilers last night in what was a great effort from the Desert Dogs in a tough building. Phoenix continues to find ways to win hockey games despite having a good not a great roster but coming into this one they sit in 4th place in the Pacific division and are climbing. Phoenix builds from Mike Smith outward as they are a defense first type of team but do have some guys who can score and always seem to take advantage of team’s who take them lightly. Phoenix aren’t quite world beaters yet but they’re on their way to being considered an elite team and a sweep of the Western Canada coast would go a long way in determining their reputation. Mike Smith will get the call for the Coyotes while Reto Berra will go for the Flames.

Calgary returns home looking to exploit a Phoenix team playing in back to back nights but this is the first game back home after a tough road trip and that is usually a sign to lean the other way. Calgary isn’t expected to do much this season but they are playing better than most anticipated and even though they’re without rookie phenom Sean Monahan for the time being they do have some offensive fire power. Reto Berra is emerging as the team’s go to option in goal and the youngster as a save of the year candidate on his resume this year and I think he will be capable of creating a few more. Normally I would hammer the Coyotes in this spot but I don’t like them in a back to back especially if Smith gets the night off and as such I think the Flames are worth a small play here as home dogs.
