The Philadelphia Flyers had one of those wins on Wednesday night that can really start a team on an extended run. Trailing by a goal heading into the third period the Flyers scored four straight goals, rallying to defeat the Detroit Red Wings 6-3. Claude Giroux's power play marker early in the third evened the score at 3-3 and from then on the Flyers cruised. Sean Couturier and Scott Hartnell scored a minute and a half apart and Couturier added his second of the game into an empty net to finish the scoring. Steve Downie and Matt Read also added goals for the Flyers improved to 13-13-2. Steve Mason continues to play solid in goal and Wednesday night we saw the Flyers team we've come to know over the past few years that was lethal offensively and on the power play. Philadelphia went 3-for-3 on the man advantage and killed off six of seven Detroit power plays. Philadelphia will face another challenge on Saturday night when they head to the American Airlines Center to take on a scrappy Dallas Stars club. The Stars are coming off a rough overtime loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night but this club is young and hungry and shows up to play every night. Dallas was outstanding on Thursday night but they couldn't find a way to beat Jonathan Bernier more than twice despite 50 shots on goal. Dallas threw 15 shots at Bernier in the first period, 12 in the second, and 17 in the third before finishing by outshooting the Leafs 6-2 in overtime. Erik Cole and Shawn Horcoff scored second period goals for Dallas but the Stars were never able to to get a lead in this one and that ultimately cost them. Kari Lehtonen made 21 saves on the night but he wasn't able to match Bernier's performance and get his team a victory. It's still a very solid effort from a Stars club that is really working hard every night out and should do well in front of their home fans on Saturday night.
