NHL Daily Updates: Checking in on Ovechkin, tonight's TV schedule and more
December 8, 2013
After a heavy slate of NHL action yesterday, we’ll be keeping the weekend going with five more games today. We’ve still got a few hours before the pucks drop, though, so in the meantime let’s take a closer look at some of the notable players out there and see who’s making headlines this morning. Here’s the latest.
Tyler Seguin, C, Dallas Stars: Seguin had a very memorable game against the Flyers yesterday. He tallied a natural hat trick--with three goals and an assist all coming in the second period--in the Stars’ 5-1 win over the Flyers. They were his first points since November 17.
We’ll see what Seguin has in store for an encore on Tuesday at home against the Blackhawks. After that it’s off to Nashville (Thursday) and Winnipeg (Saturday).

Zdeno Chara, D, Boston Bruins: The Bruins looked like they were going to fall against the Penguins yesterday, but they were able to shock Pittsburgh with a last-minute offensive display. Boston notched a pair of goals in the final 1:29, putting them on top for the 3-2 win. Chara posted the game-winner, with David Krejci tying it up a short while earlier.
The Bruins are in Toronto today to begin their road trip. They’ll visit Calgary (Tuesday), Edmonton (Thursday) and Vancouver (Saturday) this week.
Alex Ovechkin, RW, Washington Capitals: The Capitals got a big win over the Predators yesterday, and Ovechkin got in on the action as usual. He notched a goal--his 22nd of the year--in the 5-2 victory, extending his points streak to three games. Ovechkin has a total of 31 points thus far on the year.
We’ll see if he can keep it going in New York against the Rangers today. After that, the Lightning come to town on Tuesday, then the Caps have a road game against the Panthers Friday.
Ryan Getzlaf, C, Anaheim Ducks: It seems like we’ve been talking about Getzlaf a lot this year, which makes sense. He’s been peppering in the points recently, and his performance yesterday in a 5-2 win in St. Louis was no different. Getzlaf notched a goal and an assist in the victory, which gives him six scores and seven helpers in his last 10 outings.
The Ducks have a pretty thin schedule this week. Their only games are tomorrow at home against the Islanders and Wednesday at home against the Wild.
NHL Daily Schedule: 10 teams will be out on the ice this evening, so hockey fans will have plenty of options to fill their time tonight. Here’s a look at the full schedule, as well as the start times and TV networks carrying the games.
