The Boston Bruins wouldn't allow their emotional victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins to slow them down on the second night of a back-to-back in Toronto. It looked like a classic let down spot for the Bruins and after the Maple Leafs jumped out to a 1-0 lead late in the first it seemed like it could be one of those games. Instead the Bruins showed why they're always in the mix in the Eastern Conference and one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup year in and year out. Boston rallied for three goals in the second period with Carl Soderberg and Torey Krug both making the Leafs pay with power play goals. Kevin Miller scored his first goal of the season to make it a 3-1 Bruins lead heading into the third. The Maple Leafs would cut it to a goal but Jarome Iginla would ice it with a deflection and his sixth goal of the season. Patrice Bergeron finished the scoring with an empty netter as the Bruins went on to the 5-2 win. Chad Johnson moved to 5-1-0 on the year as he made 30 saves in the win. The road trip now brings them to Western Canada as the Bruins will take on the Flames on Tuesday, the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday, and the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
Calgary is just 11-14-4 on the year but they come into this one on Tuesday night having won three of their last four games. The Flames have held their opponents just four games during that stretch and that's a huge key for them because their defense and goaltending just isn't very good on most nights. Jiri Hudler scored his eight goal of the season to give the Flames the 2-1 overtime victory against the Oilers on Saturday night. Lee Stempniak scored in the first period to give Calgary a 1-0 lead that looked like it would hold up until the Oilers tied it with 11 seconds left in regulation. Reto Berra moved to 4-6-2 with the win and made 30 saves on the night. Calgary is going to see a Bruins team that should be better than them even on an off night. Boston is a solid favorite in this one but the Bruins playing on the road isn't a worry at all.
