The Carolina Hurricanes head into Saturday night's contest with the Tampa Bay Lightning losers of four of their last five games. After a four game road trip that took them to Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, and Phoenix, the Hurricanes got to return home on Friday night for one game before hitting the road again. Carolina lost three of those four games on the road and on Friday it was a poor second period that did them in on home ice against the Washington Capitals. Jordan Staal gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 first period lead with his eight goal of the season less than half way through the second period the Hurricanes would find themselves down by a goal. Riley Nash evened things up at 2-2 with a power play goal but just over four minutes later the Capitals would regain the lead for good. Washington added an empty net goal from Alex Ovechkin to seal the 4-2 win. Now after being back home for just a single game the Hurricanes have to head down to Tampa Bay to take on a Lightning club that's on a roll right now. Thursday night's win over the Nashville Predators was their thrid straight victory and the young kids are still chipping in for Tampa Bay. Alexander Killorn got the Lightning on the board with his eighth goal of the season and Tampa Bay never looked back. Martin St. Louis made it 2-0 with his 14th goal of the year. Teddy Purcell and Richard Panik also added goals in the 4-2 victory. Anders Lindback got the start in net in this one and made 28 saves against his old club to pick up his third win of the season. Lindback could be a big piece for the Lightning who don't want to wear out Ben Bishop but have had to ride him all year. Bishop's play has been sensational but it's still important to have a No. 2 goaltender that can come in and win games for you when you decided to rest your starter. Expect to see Bishop back between the pipes for this match up on Saturday night and that's not good news for the Hurricanes who haven't had the easiest time scoring of late.
