Boston looks to continue its strong play against the Ottawa Senators on Friday night at TD Banknorth Garden in Boston. This game is the first of a home and home series for these two Atlantic Division rivals.
Ottawa entered the break with what could have been its best win of the season. The Senators provided the home crowd with an early Christmas gift by blanking the Pittsburg Penguins 5-0, a game that included three goals in the third period to solidify the win. Senator’s goalie, Craig Anderson, stopped all 27 shots he faced to improve his record to 10-9-4 on the year. Despite the great performance against a tough Pens team, the Senators went into the break losing three of four games overall.

The Senators will look to build on the last game with another win against a quality opponent in the Boston Bruins. The Bruins entered the three day break with wins in seven of its last nine games, and the team currently sits atop of the Atlantic Division. The Bruins are also riding a hot streak in Boston, going 12-0-2 in the last 14 home games. The Boston roster is still somewhat beat up, and NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman upheld the 15-game suspension assessed to Shawn Thornton for the incident with Brooks Orpik earlier this month.
The Senators are 2-6 in the last eight games in Boston, and the Sens have only won 16 of the last 51 meetings overall. These two met earlier this season with Ottawa winning 4-2, rallying from a 2-0 hole by scoring four unanswered goals. With this being the first game of a home and home series, I think that Boston, being the home squad, will concentrate on winning the first of the two games. The money line doesn’t offer too much value, so I will take a look at playing the Bruins in regulation when the line is released.
