After a busy evening in the NHL last night, hockey fans are getting another jolt of games today with another eight matchups on the schedule. Before we settle in and wait for those pucks to drop, let’s take a closer look at some of the impact players out there and see who’s making headlines this morning. Here’s the latest.

Tuukka Rask, G, Boston Bruins: The Bruins have now won eight straight games at TD Garden, following a dominant performance over the Senators last night. Rask was good for saves on all 33 shots, giving him a 5-0 shutout. Four of the Bruins’ goals came in the third, with Reilly Smith scoring the middle two.
The Bruins will finish the set up tonight in Ottawa, then they’ll be at home against the Islanders on Tuesday.

Nicklas Backstrom, C, Washington Capitals: Backstrom had a strong game against the Rangers last night, and the Caps needed every bit of it. He had a goal in the second, then tallied a helper on Eric Fehr’s game-winner in the third to give Washington a 3-2 victory. That gives Backstrom 10 goals and 34 assists on the year so far. He’s been on quite a tear with the helpers, posting 15 in the last 10 games.
The Capitals will hit the road for their next two games: tomorrow in Buffalo and Monday in Ottawa.

Patrick Sharp, LW, Chicago Blackhawks: Sharp had a stellar outing against the Avalanche last night, and it turned into a dominant 7-2 Blackhawks victory. He posted a hat trick and an assist in the win, which gives him 21 scores and 19 helpers on the year. Also aiding the cause were Jonathan Toews (two goals; two assists) and Duncan Keith (three assists).
The ‘Hawks are in St. Louis tonight, then they’ll return home to face the incoming Kings on Monday.

Erik Cole, LW, Dallas Stars: Cole posted five shots against the Predators last night, and turned them into a pair of scores. Dallas would go on to take the victory 4-1. As for Cole, he now has eight goals to go along with his nine assists on the year. Helping out defensively was G Kari Lehtonen, who made 34 saves on 35 shots.
The Stars will be playing every other day next week. They’ll kick things off tomorrow with another home game against St. Louis.

NHL Daily Schedule: 16 teams will be out on the ice today, so there should be some pretty good games mixed in there. Here’s a look at the full schedule, along with the start times and TV networks you can catch the action on.
