The Vancouver Canucks will turn to rookie goalie Eddie Lack on Sunday against the Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
The Flames are just 1-5 in their last 6 games, but look to use the home ice to get back in the win column. In its last game the Flames failed to score against a porous Edmonton defense that allows a NHL worst 3.3 goals per game. Calgary has struggled in nearly all phases of the game this season, ranking in the bottom quartile in scoring, goals against, and power play percentage. One bright spot in the game against the Oilers was goaltender Reto Berra stopped 26 of 27 shots faced and now has a 1.79 GAA on the year.

Sunday’s game will be the first for Vancouver since the break, which means the club had six days off. Vancouver is 9-1-1 in its last eleven games, but the Canucks were dealt a blow with a recent injury to starting goaltender Roberto Luongo. Vancouver will turn to rookie Eddie Lack, who has been nothing short of solid thus far in his young career. Lack is 6-2-0 with a 1.93 GAA this year, and he holds an undefeated record in his four games in December with a .96 save percentage.
The Canucks are 5-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams, including a 5-4 victory earlier this year. While Calgary has the edge in the series as the home team is 7-2 in the last nine in the matchups, the Canucks are 7-3 in the last ten games played in Calgary. The Flames have struggled this year against the Western Conference and specifically the Pacific Division. I worry a little about the Canucks getting off to a slow start with the extra rest over the holiday, but I think Vancouver is too much for Calgary in this one.
