We’re coming off a pretty good weekend of hockey in the NHL, with a busy day of games in the rearview mirror. The action will ease up a bit tonight, with just four games on the schedule, but we should be seeing some pretty good hockey mixed in there. While we’re waiting for the games to begin, let’s take a look at some of the news-making players out there and see what everyone’s up to.

Tom Gilbert, D, Florida Panthers: It’s been a rough ride recently for the Panthers, but they posted a solid effort last night. They took a game against the Canadiens 4-1, aided by Gilberts pair of assists. He now has 13 helpers to go along with two goals on the year so far. He’s gotten four points in just the last five games.
Let’s look at the Panthers’ upcoming schedule. They’re at home against the Rangers tomorrow, then will get a few days off before hosting Nashville on Saturday.

James Neal, LW, Pittsburgh Penguins: The most dynamic offensive performance from yesterday’s games has to belong to Neal. He was spectacular against the Blue Jackets, posting a hat trick and a pair of assists in the 5-3 victory. It was the first five-point game of Neal’s career. Sidney Crosby also aided the cause as usual, with a goal and two helpers.
The Penguins will finish off their road trip tomorrow afternoon in New Jersey. After that it’s back home to face the Rangers on Friday.

Phil Kessel, RW, Toronto Maple Leafs: There were plenty of key contributors in the Maple Leafs’ 5-2 victory over Carolina, but we’ll focus on Kessel first. He posted a pair of goals in the win, which gives him eight points in the last 10 games. Kessel has 20 scores and 17 assists on the season. Tyler Bozak (three assists) and Jonathan Bernier (43 saves; two GA) were also great.
The Leafs are in Detroit on Wednesday and back at home against the Rangers on Saturday.

Antti Niemi, G, San Jose Sharks: The Ducks were red hot coming into last night’s game against San Jose, but Niemi and the Sharks were able to shut them down. The five-year veteran net-minder had been shaky lately (seven GA in his last two starts) but went on to notch 31 saves in a 3-1 Sharks victory. Logan Couture (goal) and Brent Burns (goal; assist) helped out offensively.
The Ducks will get a chance at revenge in Anaheim tomorrow, then the Sharks will host Edmonton on Thursday. San Jose will finish off the week in Colorado Saturday.

NHL Daily Schedule: Eight teams will be in action tonight, so there should be at least a couple of entertaining matchups mixed in there. Here’s a look at the complete schedule, along with the start times and TV networks carrying the games.
