As if the New York Islanders weren't having a bad enough season they have to look forward to the fact that they traded a first round draft pick to acquire Thomas Vanek. It's not that his 20 points in 24 games since the trade are all that bad, its the fact that the last thing the Islanders needed to trade a first round pick for was offense. For a franchise that lacks any sort of defenseman or goaltending you would think that a move like this would be made to bring in someone that plays one of those positions. Instead they traded a player who was a thirty goal scorer and a first round draft pick for another thirty goal scorer. There are plenty of reasons that this trade didn't make sense but the fact that now the Islanders still look like one of the worst teams in the league is probably the biggest one. At 12-21-7 the Islanders find themselves in last place in a terrible Metropolitan Division and they've got back-to-back games with the Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks coming up. The good news is that New York enters this game on Tuesday off a huge comeback victory over the Minnesota Wild on Sunday night. The Islanders trailed 3-0 but got three third period goals to rally for a 5-4 win. Thomas Hickey tied the game early in the third period, and Kyle Okposo scored twice to lift New York to the win. John Tavares and Cal Clutterbuck got the Islanders on the board late in the second. Kevin Poulin allowed four goals on 31 shots but picked up his fifth win of the year. Boston had their three game winning streak snapped as they lost the back end of a home-and-home with the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night. Jarome Iginla and David Warsofsky scored to bring the Bruins back from a two goal deficit but the Senators got a late tally from Bobby Ryan to secure the win. The Islanders are a sneaky club that can play well in games like this but this is a tough spot against a physical Bruins team. With the line set where it is the only play here is on the puck line unless you think the Islanders are going to pull out a win on the road.
